Dmxlab and CloudFire: a Backup and Disaster Recovery strategy with Acronis for the manufacturing industry
July 27, 2025
Case Study

When we talk about data security, we're not just talking about avoiding losses. Let's talk about business continuity, of business reputation, of Business. It is from this principle that the virtuous collaboration between Dmxlab, CloudFire and an Italian manufacturing company which today can count on a solid, scalable and protected IT infrastructure.
A case that shows how the synergy between an attentive system integrator and a reliable cloud provider, combined with a technological solution such as Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, can be transformed into a replicable, efficient and sustainable project even for SMEs.
Who is Dmxlab?
Dmxlab is an Italian company specialized in digital transformation, in counselling and supply of integrated computer systems, with a clear objective: to solve concrete customer problems, exploiting technology to generate real value and strengthening security on all fronts. Dmxlab's mission is to help businesses get the most out of existing infrastructures, creating integration between systems, reducing costs and improving the efficiency of IT resources.
Dmxlab and CloudFire share the same approach: offering effective and efficient solutions, through qualified advice, constant presence and competent support. It is precisely thanks to this common vision that a solid and constantly evolving partnership was born, based on collaboration and mutual listening.
The context: an Italian productive reality Typical, with evolving needs
The customer is a medium-sized manufacture with 35 employees, operating in the machinery and equipment sector. A company with a wealth of information with high strategic value:
- production and performance data;
- technical files and maintenance sheets;
- business relationships with customers and suppliers;
- internal know-how;
- accounting and HR documentation.
Until recently, an asset managed on a minimal local infrastructure: a single physical server, divided into two volumes, one for production and one for backups. No geographic replication, no planned DR, no malware detection system.
“A configuration that is still very common among Italian SMEs, but it risks compromising the entire business operation in the event of a failure, attack or human error” - Devis Marcotulli - Sales Manager @Dmxlab
The intervention: from Assesment The resilient strategy
Dmxlab started the project with a careful and fundamental assessment of the infrastructure, which made it possible to highlight numerous critical issues:
- Local backups on the same hardware as the productive server: ineffective in the event of a physical failure;
- No versioning: the backups overwrote the previous ones;
- Absence of a DR plan: no formal recovery plan in the event of a disastrous event;
- Uncertain recovery times and no preventive monitoring;
- Backups performed with free tools, stored in a simple unprotected network folder.
The solution: designing security without disrupting the infrastructure
Instead of proposing a completely new and expensive infrastructure, Dmxlab decided to enhance existing hardware, optimizing virtual machines and progressively moving management services to the cloud.
In parallel, a comprehensive protection and continuity strategy was designed, supported by CloudFire and Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud. The project included:
- Endpoint protection: through EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response), an advanced protection system has been implemented on all devices, capable of identifying and neutralizing attacks in real time;
- Cloud Backup with Acronis: automatic, versioned, archived offsite backups, protected by end-to-end encryption and granular access policies. All managed from the centralized Acronis console, integrated into the CloudFire platform;
- Cloud-based Disaster Recovery: no additional hardware, no secondary site to maintain. Acronis' cloud DR allows you to get back up and running in minutes, without depending on logistics or third-party vendors. An agile, scalable, sustainable solution;
- Proactive monitoring: thanks to DMXLAB's expertise, a continuous monitoring system with proactive alerting has been activated, able to detect anomalies and potential critical issues in advance.

Why is it a replicable case for each MSP?
This project represents an effective model for any system integrator or MSP who wants to stand out on the market:
- It shows that a new 'iron' is not always needed to offer real evolution: an intelligent strategy and an ecosystem of reliable partners are enough;
- Transform an obsolete infrastructure into a resilient, scalable and secure system, with sustainable times and costs;
- It improves the customer's perception of the value of the IT service, creating trust and continuity.
The benefits for the customer and for the MSP
- Guaranteed business continuity even in the event of a failure or ransomware attack;
- Greater control and visibility over the backup system;
- Reduction of management costs and extraordinary maintenance;
- No unplanned interruptions;
- Strengthened regulatory compliance.

Resilience is a project, not a product
This case clearly shows that cyber resilience is not a box to sell, but a project to be built, in partnership.
Thanks to Acronis, to the reliability of CloudFire and to the competence of Dmxlab, the company now has a system capable of responding effectively to any type of threat. A possible result because each actor played their role, in synergy.
