June brought a number of important new features to CloudFire: special attention goes to our Public Cloud service: Next Generation Iaas .

Public Cloud - Next Generation IaaS

As you might be aware of, CloudFire's Public Cloud infrastructure model was designed to respond perfectly to the changing needs of modern applications. This approach ensures maximum performance for each business application and optimises Datacenter infrastructure costs.

With that being said, what has changed between May and June? Let's take a look at the three main innovations.

Flavor

Updated architecture 🛠

Flavour is the component of the Public Cloud that defines the combination of computational and RAM resources necessary for hosting different applications. Starting from today, new architectures of two flavour types are available:

  • General Purpose V2
    Intel Xeon Gold Scalable architecture on Dell PowerEdge hardware for Enterprise applications. These Flavours are specifically designed for Enterprise applications, representing a good balance of cost and performance for a very high range of Cloud applications;
  • CPU Optimized V2
    Intel Xeon Gold Scalable architecture on Dell PowerEdge hardware for mission-critical applications. These Flavours are designed for maximum computational performance, specifically for latency-sensitive applications.

The Direct Attached Storage technology is now available in our Public Cloud service for both Flavor types. This update was necessary in order to respond more punctually and flexibly to the various requirements and to enable greater cost optimisation.

The option to apply the following Storage to both General Purpose and CPU Optimised flavours is now available:

🔗 DAS – Direct Attached Storage

Direct Attached Storage Public Cloud

  • High-performance storage directly connected to the compute resource;
  • SSD technology for General Purpose flavors and NVME technology for CPU Optimized flavors;
  • Guaranteed better performance, replication occurs on a single site, reducing access latencies to zero;
  • Data resilience limited to a single Availability Zone;
  • Fixed volume size, volume cannot be extended or reduced.

🧱 Scalable Storage

Scalable Storage Public Cloud

  • Flavor in which the Storage component is not integrated, ensuring high data resilience due to its greater redundancy;
  • Multi-tier based on needs: LTS, Standard, and SSD;
  • Enterprise-level performance based on volume size;
  • 3x additional replica in more Availability Zones to ensure uncompromised data integrity;
  • Data always available for applications without the need to implement high-reliability algorithms.

On this page of our Knowledge Base 📚, you can find all available flavors with their respective specifications.

Migration between Flavors ✈️

Considering the characteristics just listed, you may want to migrate from one type of flavor to the new resources available in the Public Cloud. To do this, it's good to follow some best practices outlined in this guide.

Storage

Going to the Storage component of the Public Cloud, you will find the following new features:

  • Increased the number of IOPS 📈 and reduced disk latencies to achieve maximum performance in total security. The calculation model applied to this storage is simpler and allows for greater efficiency useful for accessing Cloud Storage for cloud-native applications. For this model, the following profiles are available: LTS, Long Term Storage, Throughtput Optimized, HDD based; Standard, SSD, Scalable General-Purpose Storage - SSD Based;
  • The Cloud Storage service will soon be available as Scalable Object Storage in S3 protocol with new security features such as support for Veeam Immutable storage;
  • By default, the chosen flavor is Flavor DAS. However, it is possible to add storage volumes to any type of Flavor, following the same profiles required by the flavor itself. External Storage is also available for Snapshots and custom images.

Networking

In conclusion, the latest Public Cloud updates refer to the network component.

We entered IP addresses with different bandwidth profiles, including:

  • Public IP address with unlimited download ⬇️;
  • Public IP address with unlimited download and upload ⬆️ ⬇️;
  • 📡Router management and pricing modified. You have the router for free if you already use a Public IP.

📈 Other Improvements

  • Added English translation 🌍 of the CloudFire portal. By default, the language is set to Italian for all users; to change it, you need to navigate to the user details and select a different language. The language change is immediately applied upon saving user data. The language choice also applies to communication emails, such as password reset notifications.
  • Veeam Cloud Platform: modified the style 🖌 of borders in cards based on the status of Cloud Connect and Disaster Recovery services.
  • Cloud storage 📦 and Cloud PBX 📞: removed entries from the Drawer if the services are not active.

🪄 Bug Fixes

  • Bug fixed: Some direct customers were incorrectly reported as active even when they were not, leading to the possibility of activating services erroneously.
